Sunoco American Late Models Set to Invade I-96 Speedway
Lake Odessa, MI. After the second rain out in three weeks, I-96 Speedway will welcome back the Sunoco American Late Model Series, (ALMS) this Saturday night May 15. Joining the late models will be the UMP modifieds, UMP street stocks and the I-96 4 cylinders, all racing on the new 3/8 dirt track.
Jon Henry from Ada, Ohio is the defending champion as well as the 2009 rookie of the year, is one of the late model racers expected. Also, current UMP national point leader, and two time ALMS champion Rusty Schlenk from Jackson, Michigan has I-96 on his schedule.
Some other drivers expected are; 6 time ALMS champion and hall of famer from St. John’s, Michigan Kris Patterson, 2 time champ Brian Ruhlman from Clark Lake,I-96 opening night winner and Michigan Hall of Famer Roger Wing out of Middleville, Michigan and Jeep VanWormer racing out of Pinconning Michigan.
A big $2,000 awaits the winner of the 25 lap feature for the late models n Saturday night.
For motorcycle fans, Friday night May 14 the AMA District 14 riders will be on hand to race on the ½ mile. Over 50 bikes were at last weeks test and tune including some female riders coming in from the tri state area. Gates open on Friday at 4pm for the bikes.
Saturday night gates open at 4pm, hot laps at 6pm, and the first green flag will fly at 7pm.
Just a reminder for all race cars and drivers, Tuesday nights are open practice for any and all cars. Pits open at 4, practice until dark. In addition to practice on the 3/8 for all cars, the ½ mile will be open for motorcycle practice.
I-96 Speedway is located off of interstate 96 at exit 64. Go south ½ mile then west on Portland road 1 mile to the track.
